The man with the golden gun film poster

The man with the golden gun film poster is a James Bond film released on 19th December 1974 starring Roger Moore as 007. The film was based on a book of the same name written by Ian fleming. The film was produced by the /British company Eon(everything or nothing). The film was created with an estimated $7 billion budget and grossed over $97 million. The popularity of the martial arts film genre, with the stars Bruce lee and Jackie Chan. there were several kung fu scenes and the film was being shot it Hong Kong, Thailand and Macau. The artwork for the poster was by Robert McGinnis.
The film was set in the middle of the 1973 energy crisis, when the oil producing Arab nations proclaimed an oil embargo causing an oil crisis which had both short and long term effects across on politics and the economy around the world. In the image of the poster we can see in the bottom left corner that the energy beam is directed at Bond.
The mid-shot is of James Bond, dressed smartly in a suit whilst holding a gun across his body. the dominance of his image could suggest hes the 'good guy'. he looks bold and fierce in the image. He seems to be taken seriously as he is staring at the audience without a slight smile. the well known actors name is just above the image to make it clear it will be the main actor starring in the film.
The color of the gun being aimed at bond connotes wealth and status and the fact we can only see the hand of the shooter intrigues us to find out who's after Bond. In the image of the poster there are females half naked. One woman is looking at the golden gun assassin whilst pointing at Bond whilst the other has her hand out in front of him, in a way protecting him, this may suggest that along the way Bond will have allies and enemies but they all similar and therefore making it hard to identify their morals. The two woman are slim shaped and have lovely long flowing hair which gives a stereotypical image of woman. But if you look closely you can see a third woman between them in a karate outfit and is in a martial arts pose which could give her a dangerous personality, confident and brave.
A main theme is the oil supply running out and gives a sense of if in the future this is what happened it would predict what the outcomes would be for society.
One feminist theoretical perspective-Laura Mulvey realized the term 'male gaze' which meant the audience is put in the perspective of a heterosexual man. The audience is force to focus on the curves of the woman's bodies which is putting them in the eye of a male. it makes a woman an object because shes admired for her physical appearance. which could also be argued that the producer of the artwork was a male, Robert McGinnis.
